ASBURY PARK, NJ—As part of the TriCity Arts Tour presented by the Asbury Park Press (May 15-17) The ShowRoom will be screening a multimedia presentation, The Park, The Branch and The Bank, produced by George Severini and Kathy Dorn Severini of Dorn’s Classic Images (DCI), Fair Haven. DCI is a legacy of the Dorn’s photographic businesses that thrived in Red Bank for nearly 70 years. The showing will be at the ShowRoom, 708 Cookman Avenue, Asbury Park, on Saturday, May 16 at 2, 3 and 4 pm. Admission is free and the Severinis will be on hand to speak. The ShowRoom is owned and operated by Nancy Sabino and Michael Sodano, creators of A Rock and a Heart Place, a video documentary about Holiday Express.
The Park, The Branch and The Bank showcases over 130 vintage and nostalgic images of Asbury Park, Long Branch and Red Bank, many sourced from 100-year-old glass plate negatives in the DCI archive.

Underscoring the presentation are songs by composer/lyricist George Severini, featuring the vocal talents of Maureen McCrink, Scott Paden, Ralph Notaro, Pam Minson, Jose Loo and Kathy Dorn Severini, noted performers on the Shore music scene with longstanding ties to Holiday Express.

There are three main themes running through The Park, The Branch and The Bank: The glory days of this exclusive sorority of waterfront cities, which continues today . . . the unpretentious artistry of picture-makers who transcended the practical requirements of photojournalism . . . and the remarkable number of tri-city notables (seven U.S. presidents, Basie, Springsteen, Guy Lombardo) who claimed hometown status by birth or adoption.

The DCI archive includes approximately 5,000 vintage and historic photographs of Monmouth County and New York City, plus 5,000 aerials of these areas. Custom archival silver prints and Ink Jet prints are available to the public. A small compelling sampling of DCI images is on permanent display at the Monmouth Museum on the Brookdale College Campus and in Rumson’s historic Bingham Hall.

Kathy Dorn Severini is a third-generation member of the photographic family that includes: grandfather Daniel B. Dorn, a filmmaker who helped IASTE film workers’ union found the projectionist local in 1916; father Daniel W. Dorn, Sr., founder of Dorn’s Photo Shop, Red Bank; brother Daniel W. Dorn, Jr., founder of Dorn’s Photography Unlimited; and cousin James V. Dorn, a 40-year veteran of the Dorn’s businesses. Columnist George Severini is known to readers of the Two River Times newspaper and magazine as a humorous observer of two-river life.
